Local Knowledge

Discover Cornwall

Film locations, historic estates, medieval churches and the festivals worth building a trip around - the local knowledge behind PHD's day tours.

01

Film locations, hiding in plain sight

A surprising amount of Cornwall's built heritage has found a second life on screen. Prideaux Place in Padstow, Pencarrow House and the country estates that inspired Rosamunde Pilcher's novels have all doubled as filming locations - and more recently, 'The Salt Path' was shot across several Cornish coastal locations.

02

The estates and churches that were here first

Long before any film crew arrived, Cornwall's heritage properties were doing their own thing - the National Trust's Lanhydrock Estate, Trewithen Estate near Truro, and clusters of working fishermen's cottages up and down the coast. St Breaca's 15th-century church at Breage, near Penzance, is one of the quieter ones worth the detour - medieval wall paintings and stained glass most visitors never see.

Three festivals worth building a trip around

Boardmasters, Great Estate and Rock Oyster Festival are the three fixtures worth knowing about if a visit lines up with one - and PHD can route transport around any of them, including the return trip when it matters most.
